StatSoc’s Lab: Understanding the Statistics Behind Vaccines is a webinar and panel discussion held last October 1, 2021. The event is part of the 40th Anniversary Celebration of UP Statistical Society which sought to promote understanding of data about the COVID-19 vaccines using a statistical lens. More specifically, the webinar addressed the apparent discrepancy between efficacy as reported in clinical trials as compared to studies of real-world effectiveness, identified common statistical errors in interpreting vaccine data, and analyzed the use of vaccines as a tool in ending the pandemic in light of new variants.
