1981

- September 12 – birth of the pioneer organization in UP School of Statistics, the UP Statistical Society.

- The Board of Directors upon its  foundation was composed of the  President, Vice-President, Secretary, Business Manager, Education and Research Division Manager, Personnel Division Manager, and the Public Relations Division Manager.

​

- Dr. Ana Maria L. Tabunda – the first adviser of UP StatSoc. She is currently the Executive Director of Pulse Asia and a professor of the School of Statistics.

HISTORY

1982

- UP StatSoc sponsored a concert of the popular trio, the APO Hiking Society in celebration of its first anniversary.

 

- Stat-is-Eeks!, an inter-university Statistics quiz show was introduced. Its very 1st champion was no wonder, a Statistics major, Ms. Julie M. Ico.

1985

- The 1st Amendment in the Constitution came about. The line-up of the Board of Directors is now composed of the President, Internal VP, External VP, Secretary, and the chairpersons of the six standing committees namely: Communications, Education and Research, External, Finance, Internal, and Personnel.

- Mr. Nicco Emmanuel de Jesus – the 1st male president of the UP StatSoc was elected.

​

- Peggy Mae Hwang graduated as UP Diliman’s Valedictorian. She was the second Summa Cum Laude from UP StatSoc.

1986

- The Stat Child, a free tutorial service in Math and English subjects among elementary and high school students, in Balara area was introduced.

1987

- Stat-is- Eeks! became an inter-university Statistics quiz show for non-statistics majors and have continually drawn interest from the prestigious colleges and universities around Metro Manila and nearby provinces such as Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, and Pampanga. It was first held in the Nicanor Abelardo Theater.

1988

- UP StatSoc sponsored the movie Off Beat in cooperation with UP School of Statistics Student Council at the Rizal Theater.

 

- The annual Bingo Socials began this year.

1989

UP StatSoc sponsored Colours Alive!, a concert of then popular group NEOColours.

1990

UP StatSoc held Orphan’s Day, an outreach program, where they visited orphans in White Cross and brought them to the Executive House.

 

In order to raise funds to support the organization’s planned activities, a group of StatSocers joined the Sunday noontime game show Ready, Get Set, Go!

1997

November - the first Stat Wars took place, a sports fest among the UPLB Stats, UP Variates, and UP StatSoc, created in order to foster closer ties among the said organizations.

 

During the 2nd semester of 1997, the number of StatSocers reached the 100 mark for the first time.

1998

UP StatSoc introduced their first website www.upstatsoc.tsx.org.

 

The Buddy Sale was introduced in order for the applicants to have a buddy who is a member of the organization to help them in their application. The record was a startling five hundred pesos!

 

The 1st issue of the Alternative Hype, the official organization newsletter was published with Ms. Judy Mina as the first Editor-in- Chief.
